Insuring a campervan you can’t stand up in is quite difficult in some countries. Probably linked to the fact that Irish law was taken to court a few years back when somebody decided a campervan had to be at least 1m 80cm inside so that you could stand up. Obviously in Europe this is not the case so it was thrown out. Insurance companies however are still sticking to this rule. One solution which is easy and good value is to join the excellent Motor Caravan club of Ireland. They have arranged a deal which allows any camper to be insured for a fixed price with three named drivers. There is a bit of paperwork involved. They are however very friendly and helpful and the insurance is now granted and the van is on the road after twelve months as a van.

Insuring a campervan you can’t stand up in
Driving a van in Ireland is a tricky business from an insurance point of view. Unlike other countries the van is insured purely as a commercial vehicle, and all trips done in the van for other purposes are in fact not allowed. So where as lots of people may pick their kids up from school or use the van on a Sunday they are actually not supposed to and should arrange insurance for this on top.
